Love
Love conquers all
A romanticized idea fed to us from the very beginning
But Love is so sought after that we don’t stop to consider
That maybe Love isn’t who we think it is
Yes, Love does conquer all
Maybe that explains the rope fastening around my throat
Pulling tighter and tighter with every “I love you”
Maybe that explains the empty cavity that once held my heart
My soul
Yes and if Love conquers all
Then I too am conquered
Held under the weight of the chain-linked net it cast upon me
Trapped beneath the ocean
the pressure too much to handle
Love conquers all
And I am its slave
Chained to its floor
Reaching out for salvation but finding nothing
Only the cold emptiness of my cell
A cell that only seems to get smaller
Love does conquer all
There is no escape
We are all doomed to fall under its dominion
To have life choked out of every pore
Beaten and burned until we give in
Then Love loosens its grip on us and leaves us behind
A cold and Bitter husk of what we once were.
